Torin Yater-Wallace, Basalt

Speciality: ski halfpipe

Age: 22

There is no more compelling story in Olympic skiing than Yater Wallace’s. After fighting through injuries to reach Sochi, Yater Wallace struggled in the halfpipe. Upon his return, an infection left him near death. Through health struggles and family issues, the 22-year-old has maintained his status as one of the world’s top halfpipe skiers. His high-amplitude technical spinning coupled with extraordinary style make him a favorite in PyeongChang, but he has to beat his own teammates, including Ferreira, Blunck and reigning Olympic gold medalist David Wise.

Competing: Feb. 20, qualifying, Feb. 22 finals.
