A man carrying a sword cut another man’s hand in Boulder on Wednesday afternoon, leaving him with a serious hand injury.

Boulder police spokeswoman Laurie Ogden said police began receiving calls of a suspicious man with a sword in his backpack near 14th and Walnut at about 3:30 p.m.

“Shortly after, we got calls from the Wells Fargo at 1700 Pearl that a man was chasing someone with a sword,” Ogden said. “The next time, he was seen he was at 14th and Canyon.”

Ogden said the man pulled a knife out of the victim’s backpack and slashed at the victim, who held his hand up defensively, sustaining a serious injury in the process. He was taken to Boulder Community Hospital’s Foothills Hospital.

She said that the suspect, described as a 30-year-old white man dressed in a black jacket and carrying a backpack and sword, was not located.
