Scott Alan Benson, 50, is being held at the Boulder County Jail on charges of felony menacing, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and violating a restraining order.
According to an arrest report, officers were dispatched on a report of a man waving a gun around at 7:38 p.m. Monday at the Walmart at 2514 Main St. Police responded to a similar call earlier in the day involving a man identified as Benson.
Colorado court records show that Benson was convicted in 2014 of third-degree assault, driving under the influence and felony criminal mischief. He also has convictions from the 1990s for possession of drugs and from the 1980s for resisting arrest and third-degree assault.
Longmont Deputy Chief Jeff Satur said in a statement that officers showed restraint by using less-lethal ammunition in a dangerous situation.
