Redemption.
Sitting in second place with just one run remaining, Shawn White found his way back to the top of the podium. In the final run of the halfpipe final on Wednesday, White scored 97.75 to overtake Japan’s Ayumu Hirano to capture his third Olympic gold medal.
It was the fourth American gold medal in snowboarding at the Olympics, as White joins Chloe Kim, Silverthorne’s Red Gerard and Jamie Anderson. It also marked the United States’ 100th gold medal all-time in the Winter Olympics.
