Federal and local officials tracked down and arrested a 23-year-old street gang member who had been wanted for attempted first-degree murder in a November shooting in Fort Collins.
John Mercado is suspected of shooting someone in the chest during a Nov. 26 robbery, said Brian Alfano, spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service Colorado Violent Offender Task Force.
Members of the task force worked with officers from Loveland and Fort Collins to surround a home in Loveland where they suspected Mercado was hiding.
Mercado, a known member of the Norteno gang, surrendered after officers ordered him out of the home, Alfano said.
