COMMERCE CITY — The temperature at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park was a frigid 3 degrees at kickoff Tuesday in a game between the Colorado Rapids and Toronto FC. The coldest MLS game on record was 19 degrees last March in Minnesota.

It was so cold, in fact, that the beer lines literally froze at the concession stands.

Mark Goodman, a and co-host of the who goes by the moniker “Rapids Rabbi”, during Tuesday’s match.

“Different liquids have different freezing temperatures. I’m not exactly sure what temperature beer freezes at, but if you’re talking about 3 degrees, that’s very cold,” Cody Ledbetter, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Boulder, said. “It doesn’t surprise me.”

Despite the conditions, 2,673 fans were in attendance to watch the Rapids lose 2-0 to the defending MLS Cup champions in the CONCACAF Champions League match.

“Single-digits, that’s pretty cold,” Ledbetter said. “But it’s not what we would consider dangerously cold, if you’ve got warm clothing on.”

Even still, fans could not get over the fact that beer lines at the concession stands froze during the game, and the reaction to Goodman’s tweet were pretty humorous.
