Body believed to missing Denver preschool teacher found near Jones Pass

Investigators say they believe the body found Thursday near Jones Pass west of Empire is that of a missing Denver preschool teacher, the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office said.

Peter McInerney, 65, was last seen back country skiing Jones Pass on Feb. 18.

The recovery process remains ongoing, the office said in a news release.

Alpine Rescue Team members found the body just south of where a backpack was discovered last Thursday.

The Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office, Alpine Rescue Team and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office all pitched in searching Thursday with the help of two search dogs, four snowmobiles and two Sno-Cats.

“The sheriff’s office would like to extend its deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers to family and friends,” the release read

The Clear Creek County Coroner’s office will conduct a death investigation to find out the cause and manner of death.
