In the heart of Hilltop, main-floor master shows warm, inviting spaces

Neither a dated ranch home nor a contemporary two story, Home Smart agents Joanne Kleinstein and Ann Torgerson will show you a nice compromise between those extremes

In Hilltop, east of Cherry Creek, neighborhoods are now a mix of dated ranches built back when Dwight Eisenhower was president, and new, very contemporary two-stories – large scale, vertical, much more expensive and a little less intimate.

Home Smart agents Joanne Kleinstein and Ann Torgerson will show you a nice compromise between those extremes today – a large ranch plan dating from 1957 that had a very thorough makeover in 1999, popping the top with some upstairs getaway space including a huge teen suite, a short walk from Park Burger, Pete’s and other Holly Street haunts.

Priced at $1,699,999, the five-bedroom main-floor master plan at 225 S. Glencoe St., open today, Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m., will save you money over what those new-builds go for – more in the $2-plus range, says Kleinstein, in coveted surroundings where some lots scrape for up to $1 million.

“Itap light and has a wonderful flow for entertaining,” she adds about this plan that rambles about from an entry courtyard. The home shows off an 8,750-square-foot home site, allowing the 4,200-foot plan to avoid the cramped feeling that main-floor masters sometimes have. (This master has two walk-in closets, a second fireplace, spa bath and private doors to the patio area in back, with a perennial garden and a koi pond).

The sellers, moving to be closer to their kids, were here 47 years and oversaw a very attractive makeover with contemporary coved ceilings, wide-open living and dining areas, and a family hearth room off the remodeled kitchen with curved walls, granite tops, lots of designer lighting and premium appliances including Sub-Zero fridge, five-burner cooktop, warming drawer, and two dishwashers.

Kleinstein and Torgerson will have cookies baked fresh from one of the two Dacor ovens, 2 to 4 p.m. today, Sunday.  From South Colorado Boulevard head east on Alameda 8 blocks to Forest Street, turn north on Forest a block to Cedar, then east to Glencoe and right again.

The news and editorial staffs of The Denver Post had no role in this postap preparation.
