Prep basketball rundown: Notable Class 4A performances in the girls Great 8

Mesa Ridge, Pueblo South, Widefield and Evergreen all advanced to the Final Four next week at the Denver Coliseum

Here’s a list of notable performances from the Class 4A girls Great 8 on Friday. The action resumes next week with the Final Four at the Denver Coliseum on Thursday, March 8. The championship game is Saturday, March 10.

No. 8 Mesa Ridge 66, No. 1 Pueblo West 63: The Grizzlies (23-3, Colorado Springs Metro champions) to return to the Final Four for the first time since 2014, as senior guard Chloe Welch dropped 20 points to beat Pueblo West (24-2).

No. 12 Pueblo South 70, No. 20 Sierra 38: Junior forward Gabi Lucero had a career night for the Colts (17-9), while junior Drea Nelson added 11 to send the Stallions (18-9) packing as Pueblo South appears to be peaking at the perfect time.

No. 15 Widefield 50, No. 10 Golden 49: With Gladiators’ (22-5) coach Jim Mason set to step down from a 22-year career at the end of this season, junior point guard Aaliyah Ricketts with two ticks remaining to upset the Demons (21-5).

No. 6 Evergreen 50, No. 3 Air Academy 36: The defending champion Cougars (24-2) ended a 21-game win streak for the Kadets (24-2) as junior foward Claudia Dillon, a Missouri volleyball commit, led Evergreen with 14 points while three of her teammates

Final Four: Mesa Ridge vs. Pueblo South, Widefield vs. Evergreen
