Denver firefighters worked through the night putting out hot spots leftover from a massive Wednesday afternoon fire at a construction site in the North Capitol Hill neighborhood that killed one person, left at least one person missing and injured others.

Denver Fire Captain Greg Pixley was checking early Thursday morning whether there were any further updates on unaccounted for people.

Pixley announced one person was missing Wednesday, but  a Denver family is searching for another construction worker.

“Hopefully that person went to a bar last night,” Pixley said. “I need to find out where we are as far as that status goes.”

The huge amount of water used to douse the fire’s roaring flames froze overnight, creating unsafe conditions for fire investigators to do their jobs first thing Thursday morning.

“We can’t be walking on that frozen ice as we do that investigation,” Pixley said. “We’re hoping we’ll have the daylight and warmth so we can work a little bit safer.”

Some roads still remain closed around the charred construction site.

, 18th Avenue and Park Avenue reopened Thursday morning. A stop sign was set up at 19th and Park Avenues. Emerson Street remains closed between 19th and 18th Avenues.
