PARK CITY, Utah — 70-year-old Ken Portz of Durango was on vacation with friends in Park City last week when he fell on a ski race course and ran into a pole.

Authorities at Deer Valley Resort say the man was skiing with a private group when he collided with the pole Friday.
Emergency crews responded, and he was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Herald said Portz was a former racer and a long-time volunteer with the Adaptive Sports Association at Purgatory Resort.
