The state transportation department and Pitkin County plan to add and improve the signage at an intersection near Aspen where an NBA agent died in a crash with a bus.
Beyond that, however, major changes to the intersection of Colorado 82 and Smith Way are more problematic, said Brian Pettet, Pitkin County’s public works director.
Officials also have discussed limiting turns at the intersection, adding a traffic signal or turning the intersection into a roundabout. None of the options are ideal, Pettet said.
He met with members of the Colorado Department of Transportation at the intersection last week to determine what can be done to improve safety there.
The meeting came in the wake of the death of Fegan, 56, whose SUV was struck on Feb. 24 by a Roaring Fork Transportation Authority bus. Fegan’s 5-year-old son and 29-year-old nanny were injured in the crash.
