The Carson Midway Fire, which burned 3,300 acres near the Fort Carson training area, has been completely contained except for some tires that remain burning.

Driven by the wind, the fire spread quickly Friday near Indian Village Heights and Armadillo Heights, forcing the temporary evacuation of at least 250 homes. Only a few homes that are near the burning tires remain evacuated.

The cause of the fire, which destroyed several structures, is under investigation.

Firefighters from Fort Carson and El Paso and Pueblo counties are still monitoring the fire and attacking hot spots. A hazardous-materials team from the El Paso County Office of Emergency Management was working on the burning tires.

Residents who are still evacuated can call the Red Cross for assistance at 800-417-0495 or head to the Red Cross local chapter office at 1040 S. Eighth Street in Colorado Springs. For those who have returned home, is available to help with fire cleanup and re-entry guidelines.

While fighting the fire, first responders found a marijuana cultivation operation in the 7900 block of Aliyah Way. Law enforcement officials obtained a search warrant and seized more than 100 illegal marijuana plants.
