A former security guard at Grandview High School in Aurora was sentenced Wednesday to one year in jail for sexually assaulting and exploiting a student.

Broderick Lundie, 30, also was sentenced to eight years of sex-offender probation.聽Lundie had oral sex and exchanged nude pictures with the student during the 2017 spring semester, according to his arrest affidavit.

鈥淲hether a teacher, a guidance counselor or a janitor — we expect and trust those who work in our schools and have special access to our children to protect them when we send them to class, not prey upon them,鈥� District Attorney George Brauchler said in a news release. 鈥淭his guy took advantage of a girl not yet old enough to understand the implications of her actions. Instead of keeping her secure, he victimized her for his self-gratification.鈥�

Lundie was arrested in May 2017 after the family of the 16-year-old student contacted police. Police found 16,000 deleted text messages on the student’s phone as well as pictures of her exposed breast and Lundie’s exposed penis, the affidavit said.

According to police records, the student stated Lundie first courted her through Instagram but moved to text messaging, where the conversations eventually turned more romantic. She described their relationship as dating.

Lundie later met the student at her house when her parents were not home. She got in his car, and they drove around the block, where they allegedly performed oral sex on each other, the affidavit said.

“Our daughter had her innocence and dignity torn away from her. Little did we know sending her to her own high school would be the most dangerous place for her to be,” a statement聽from the girl’s parents read.

Lundie was charged with sexual exploitation of a child, promotion of obscenities to a minor and sexual assault.
