Re: “Colorado man serving 98-year sentence files petition seeking equal treatment to co-defendant Rene Lima-Marin,” April 9 news story

Let me join my voice to the question “Why a 98-year sentence for theft?” For that matter, why are charges repeatedly doubled by making the same charge with different words, adding up to the same thing? If there is no law requiring that penalties be reasonable? It’s certainly time for it. It is implied in the Constitution; isn’t that good enough?

Yes, Michael Clifton should have his sentence reduced, and then all other very long prison sentences should be reviewed and corrected if necessary. I assume somebody is profiting mightily from this practice while the taxpayer pays the cost.
