An “unexpected repair” on a natural gas line in Chaffee County has led to a widespread service outage.
Atmos Energy on Tuesday temporarily disconnected gas service to about 3,900 homes and businesses in Salida and Poncha Springs, according to the county’s office of emergency management.
More than 40 crews are working on restoring natural gas service to the area, county officials said. Service should be restored in phases, beginning Wednesday, and will be carried out over several days. Trained technicians who are allowed access to homes and businesses will “relight” appliances. A resident or proprietor over age 18 must be present on the premises when technicians arrive.
No evacuations were ordered because of the shutdown and restart.
