A wildfire-sparked pre-evacuation notice for people living near Keene Ranch in Douglas County has been lifted as crews fully contained the fire that burned less than an acre, officials said just after noon.
The evacuation was put in place because of wind stoked the fire near Dawson Butte between Castle Rock and Larkspur in Douglas County. Firefighters from the Larkspur Fire Protection District and two companies from South Metro Fire Rescue responded, according to tweets from the agency just after 9:30 a.m.
Authorities shut down Tomah Road west of the fire at Bear Dance Drive. The Douglas County Fairgrounds in Castle Rock accepted large animals during the evacuation.
The National Weather Service in Boulder warned Coloradans on Tuesday that extreme fire danger and high winds would develop across the state.
Overlapping High Wind & Red Flag Warnings signal a potentially hazardous day ahead. Wind driven fires pose a threat in wildland & structural firefighting. You can help reduce risk by being extra careful and eliminating sources of heat, sparks & open flames today.
