The Denver Police Department is warning parents about a kidnapping scam making its way around the community, authorities said Friday.

Officers have responded to several reports of kidnapping where a caller demands a monetary payment in exchange for the release of the victim’s child. The caller, who has dialed parents in the afternoon, demands the money be wired to a bank.

After police investigated, they determined the kidnappings were false.

“None of the children were found to be abducted,” Denver police said in a news release. “It appeared the caller was attempting to take advantage of the parents.”

Police found these calls happening in southwest Denver in the past two days.

Anyone who receives a call of this nature is asked to contact the Denver Police Department at 720-913-2000 immediately and not respond to the caller’s demands.
