Bridge work on West Mississippi Avenue over the South Platte River during the next six to eight weeks will slow traffic and cause delays.

The road project in Denver includes removing old asphalt on the bridge deck, inspecting the concrete deck and installing new asphalt, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Intermittent lane closures will occur, but one lane in each direction will remain open. Delays are expected, and drivers are urged to consider alternate routes.

Restoration work on the underside of the bridge is part of the project; people who use the South Platte River trail in the area will be detoured.

The cost of the bridge maintenance project is about $1 million.
