Arvada is going back to its roots when it comes to celebrating the Fourth of July this summer, dropping its expanded Independence Day celebration that featured vendors and live music for a night of fireworks only.

The city cites several reasons for scaling back the event: a lack of volunteers; the strain on policing; low interest by food vendors; limited parking; complaints from surrounding neighborhoods; and an inability to secure enough traffic barricades and cones due to so much construction in the metro area.

The fireworks show will be held at Stenger Sports Complex, West 58th Avenue and Oak Street, with gates opening at 7 p.m. and fireworks starting two hours later. Parking is free but no recreational vehicles will be permitted.

No alcohol or pets are allowed, though people can bring propane grills for cooking.
