A 63-year-old Cortez woman has been charged with theft after she allegedly stole Railroad Retirement Board funds on behalf of her then-deceased mother.
Cheryl Garcia was charged Thursday in Denver U.S. District Court with theft of government funds totaling $1,271, according to court records.
Garcia faces up to 10 years in a federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
She was released on a personal recognizance bond pending trial.
