Lakewood’s Glennon Heights grew up as a bedroom community for the Denver Federal Center — the mile-square federal complex west of Kipling at Sixth Avenue — 15 years before Lakewood incorporated as a city. Now itap a reserve of ranch plans, at a time when those have become very popular, not just with downsizing baby boomers, but younger families, too.

Twin-sister Realtors Alison Brennan and Cara George will show you one Sunday, April 29, that offers uncommon size, and a remodeled interior, noon to 1 p.m.

The big ranch at 10215 W. Glennon Drive, priced at $548,000, is a three-bedroom built in 1956 that took on an expansion in 1969 that brought its main-level living area up to 2,700 square feet.

“Itap hard to get this kind of square footage in a ranch,” says George, who notes that just 2 miles west of here, ranch prices for this kind of space climb to over $1 million.

Older parts of Lakewood have lot sizes that are unheard of in newer areas, this one over 0.4 acres, set across from a grassy open space that the agents say is designated for a city park.

The home is a 3-block walk from Glennon Heights Elementary, closer still to a city pool serving the neighborhood. The sellers rave about the commuter location (she drives to downtown in 15 minutes, he catches the West Line light rail 2 miles north at Garrison Station). They both like the access to concerts at Red Rocks and the trails into Hayden Green Mountain Park.

You’ll see none of the low ceilings that are the downside of Space Age ranches — after substantial remodels in 2001 and 2008. Living room, master suite (with a private patio) and kitchen-family area are all wide open, with attractive finishes and high ceilings leading out to a swimming pool.

Brennan and George, with Re/Max Professionals, will have refreshments out. Take Kipling south from the Sixth Avenue Freeway 1.5 mile to Exposition, turn a long block west to Miller, and head north a block to Center Avenue, which will lead you north around the park to the home.

The news and editorial staffs of The Denver Post had no role in this postap preparation.
