SWAT team members in Jefferson County were trying to resolve a situation late Monday in which an armed 37-year-old man was barricaded with his mother inside a house on U.S. 285 between Conifer and Pine Junction.

Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Techmeyer said dispatch received a 911 call shortly before 7 p.m. from a man who said his adult son had “abused” him and his wife in a home in the 12500 block of U.S. 285 before the man was able to escape.

But the mother, 69, was being held in the home by her son. Techmeyer said officers had been in contact with the mother but not with the son. He said SWAT team members would work into the night to try to get both the mother and son out safely.

Residents in the neighborhood were advised to shelter in place.
