began his postseason quest toward a potential spot in the NBA like a man on a mission, turning heads in a pair of showcases that likely had scouts raising eyebrows and taking notes.
Based solely on the numbers, King wasn’t quite able to keep that momentum rolling at the NBA draft combine.
With a month remaining before the June 21 draft, King participated in the annual prospect showcase last week in Chicago. While the former University of Colorado star and recent CU graduate hardly endured a nightmarish struggle in the Windy City, King nonetheless was unable to repeat the eye-popping numbers he produced in recent months at the NABC All-Star game and the Portsmouth Invitational.
King participated in two scrimmages at the combine, with his squad winning both games. King scored 10 points in his first game and 11 in the second, going 5-for-9 from the field in the opener and 4-for-8 in the finale. While King, who finished his Buffaloes career as the program’s No. 2 all-time leader in 3-point percentage, went 7-for-13 from long range while earning all-tournament honors at the Portsmouth Invitational, he went just 1-for-5 on 3-pointers in the two scrimmages at the combine. That mark was front-loaded with an 0-for-3 game in the opener.
