Forward Gabriel Bourque has been re-signed by the on a one-year deal, the team announced Thursday.

Bourque, a fifth-round selection in the 2009 draft by Nashville, recorded five goals and six assists for the Avalanche in 58 regular-season games and scored twice against the Predators in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 27-year-old wore ‘s “A” designating him as an alternate captain for a number of games this season when MacKinnon and were injured.

“Gabriel brings leadership and a veteran presence to our team,” Avalanche general manager said in a news release. “He plays hard minutes, kills penalties and is reliable at both ends of the ice.”

Bourque, a 5-foot-10, 206-pound left wing, was first signed by the Avalanche as a free agent in October 2016 and spent most of that season with the AHL San Antonio Rampage, ranking third on the team with 33 points.
