A Colorado Springs man faces a criminal citation after shooting himself in the leg while trying to kill a raccoon just after midnight Wednesday morning.
Don Upshaw has been cited for a misdemeanor charge of prohibited use of a weapon.
Colorado Springs police answered a call of a shooting in the 2500 block of Weston Road.
When they arrived in the neighborhood, however, they tracked Upshaw to his garage in the 3000 block of Delta Drive suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower leg.
“The male stated he was attempting to shoot a raccoon on a telephone pole, with his revolver handgun, and accidentally shot himself in the lower leg,” a police report says.
Upshaw was taken to Memorial Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
And cited.
The raccoon escaped unscathed.
