The Jefferson County Sheriff’s office thanked the public for its help locating the family of a 5-year-old boy named Manuel who was spotted walking alone on West Ken Caryl Avenue early Tuesday morning.

The boy was found more than a mile from home, the sheriff’s office said.

A classmate and teacher of the boy recognized him from news stories and social media. Simultaneously, an adult family member, who had been searching the neighborhood for the boy, called the sheriff’s office after learning the boy had been found by a worker who had seen a post on social media.

An investigation into why the boy wandered from his home continues, but he has been reunited with his family and the sheriff’s office announced it does not plan to pursue any criminal charges.
