A portion of westbound Sixth Avenue was closed in Clear Creek Canyon on Friday afternoon as emergency responders rescued a stranded hiker.
The highway shut down before 2 p.m. between the intersection of Colorado 58 and Colorado 93 to Colorado 119, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, so emergency equipment could be used in the rescue.

Several emergency agencies contributed, including West Metro Fire Rescue, the Golden Fire Department and Alpine Rescue.
The aid included a high-angle rescue, with emergency workers using ropes to extract the hiker, who was stuck on a ledge, said Jenny Fulton, a sheriff’s spokeswoman.
The hiker was down and safe about an hour later. The highway will reopen shortly, after emergency vehicles clear the area.
