The Loveland man accused of attacking another man with a flare gun at a Kum & Go gas station in Loveland pleaded guilty Tuesday morning, and his subsequent sentencing brought the nearly 9-month-old case to a quick conclusion.

Ryan Johnson, 30, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault in 8th Judicial District Court in Fort Collins. Judge Carroll Michelle Brinegar accepted the guilty plea and sentenced Johnson to 12 years in the state Department of Corrections, to be followed by five years’ mandatory probation.

In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to drop charges alleging use of a deadly weapon as a previous offender, reckless endangerment, drug possession and violation of bail bond conditions.

Johnson, wearing his orange uniform, sandals and chains, appeared before Brinegar with his defense attorney, Sarah Beth Cure.
