A Mesa County Detention Facility inmate was found unresponsive in his cell during routine security checks Friday around 11:30 a.m.
Nursing staff performed CPR and emergency medical services were dispatched. Multiple attempts at resuscitation failed and he was later pronounced dead.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and the Mesa County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death and release the inmate’s identity once the next of kin have been notified.
