Firefighters rescued two cats from a residential basement fire in Highlands Ranch early Tuesday morning, the Littleton Fire Department says.
Firefighters administered oxygen to the cats. The cats were taken to an animal ER by Douglas County Sheriff.

Firefighters say smoke alarms woke the family, allowing them to escape. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
