A 5K fundraiser for the family devastated by a road-raged fuel fatal shooting outside of a Westminster dentist’s office is scheduled for Sunday morning.
The community-created event, called Bigelow Strong, benefits Meghan Bigelow and her two sons Vaughn and Asa, who were victims in the June shooting. Thirteen-year-old Vaughn was killed in the shooting, and his mother Meghan and 8-year-old brother, Asa, were critically injured.
A bystander, John Gale, is recovering from gunshot wounds in both arms.
Jeremy Webster, 23, was charged with first-degree murder and 19 other offenses related to the shooting.
The 5K run supporting the family starts at 8 a.m. at LifeTime Fitness Westminster at 397 W. 148th Ave. The website and fundraiser got its start by volunteers from the LifeTime Tri Team, made possible by contributions from the local community.
An online silent auction and more information about the run can be found at Bidding for the auction ends Friday at 7 p.m.
In an online journal documenting the family’s medical progression, the most recent entry from Wednesday reflects on how much has changed for the Bigelow’s within the last month and how much more will change as time goes forward.
Meghan, 41, is moving closer to be discharged from the hospital while young Asa was frustrated after waking up from another surgery to discover a medical device placed in his nasal passage.
The post also thanks those who have signed up for the upcoming race and contributed through the silent auction.
“We are hoping for the best,” the post reads.
