A man who held officers at bay in Colorado Springs on Tuesday shot himself and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said.
Colorado Springs Police responded to shots fired and asked residents of the Village at Springs Ranch to shelter in place.
Officers first responded to a call of shots fired inside the gated community a little before 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Golden Glow View is secure. No neighbors or officers were injured. The suspect was transported to a local hospital with a self-inflicted gun shot wound, his condition is critical. Area residents will be able to return home in the next few minutes.

“When officers arrived on scene, there were additional shots fired while officers were attempting to make contact,” Lt. Howard Black said. “Right now, no one is injured from a law enforcement perspective.”
Officers quickly set up a large perimeter, prompting to go on lockdown until it released students at 1:50 p.m.
Police evacuated some neighboring condos in the community, and they’re not letting other residents inside the perimeter. Black advised people who live in the Village at Springs Ranch should check the department’s social media accounts for updates.
