One little piggy went “wee wee wee” in a Loveland parking lot Sunday morning, but it didn’t go all the way home — rather, it might find a new one.

The loose pig captured at Ashley Estates on Sunday was taken to the Larimer Humane Society, where it awaits either its rightful owner or a new home.

The loose pig captured at Ashley Estates on Sunday was taken to the Larimer Humane Society, where it awaits either its rightful owner or a new home.

A male potbellied pig wandered on the grounds of the Ashley Estates apartment complex on West 64th Street; it took Loveland Police and the Larimer Humane Society from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. to contain it and lead it into an animal control van, according to a Facebook post from witness Stephen Sarvis.

Sarvis captured part of the incident from the balcony of his home in the apartment complex. The footage shows Larimer Humane Society Sgt. Joe Quinn roping the distressed pig and eventually calming it. Quinn later transported the pig to the humane society, where it awaits a claim from its rightful owner, according to humane society spokeswoman Kaylene Weingardt.

“Our goal right now is to get him back (to owners),” Weingardt said. “Hopefully he was just out for an adventure and can go home.”

She said the pig will wait out a state-mandated five-day period in which the rightful owners can step forward. If no one claims the pig before Friday, the shelter will perform any necessary medical procedures on the pig and then put it up for adoption.
