Rangers with Colorado Parks and Wildlife tranquilized and captured a mountain lion that was hanging out under a Boulder house Wednesday afternoon.
CPW spokesman Jason Clay said that a young female lion was under a deck or patio at a home near the intersection of Folsom Street and Mapleton Avenue and was successfully tranquilized in the afternoon.
“Our officers were able to get a dart into it and load it onto a cart,” Clay said.
A video provided to the Boulder Daily Camera showed at least five CPW rangers carrying the unconscious cat on a blue tarpaulin and loading it into a metal cart. A sizable crowd of onlookers are seen in the street and at one point someone off camera says, “Guys, you have to stay back.”
Clay said that the lion will be taken to another location and released, but like bears that are captured, the animal will be put down if it is captured again. Officials will tag the cat’s ear to denote its capture Wednesday before releasing it.
