The fence was intended to keep deer off Interstate 70 – not people out of the Rocky Mountain wilderness.

And so early Monday morning, the deer fence failed to stop a suspected drunken driver from crashing through it and smashing into boulders, according to Colorado State Patrol troopers.

After the suspect careened off the interstate near Avon in his red pickup truck, Avon police arrested the unidentified driver early Tuesday morning.

The crash happened as the suspect was attempting to elude police near the Avon exit, according to a 3:27 a.m. Colorado State Patrol tweet.
