A teen-age boy who allegedly shot and critically injured a teenage student at DSST Cole Middle School has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, authorities say.

The boy, who has not been identified, is also charged with first degree assault and possession of a handgun by a juvenile, said Ken Lane, spokesman for Denver District Attorney Beth McCann.

The shooting occurred around 2 p.m. on Aug. 28 on a grassy area outside the school’s Mitchell Building in the 3200 block of Marion Street in northeast Denver.

The suspect will be formally advised of the the charges at a closed court hearing at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Lane said.

The victim was in critical condition. His identity has also not been released.
