Traffic passes through Interstate 70 via Eisenhower Tunnel.
Getting your player ready...
If you’re making a late-night trip west over the Continental Divide on Interstate 70 on Tuesday night, you might want to change your date of travel.
Work crews will close the westbound side of the tunnel complex from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday to replace some fireproofing ceiling panels inside the tunnel. A recent inspection revealed the need to undertake the work, according to the state Department of Transportation.
A full closure of westbound lanes is necessary because many of the panels are in the center of the travel lanes and the panels that are not quite centered may require an adjacent panel to be removed for work.
Motorists will be detoured over Loveland Pass on U.S. 6 during the closure.
