Traffic moves in and out of Denver International Airport last September. The airport is in the midst of a $1.5 billion gate expansion project.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a to Denver International Airport because of very thick fog and although planes are still taking off there is about a 15 minute delay, officials say.

“Traffic is moving at a slower rate,” said Emily Williams, spokeswoman for DIA. “There may be delays.”

Incoming flights will be grounded temporarily, meaning that planes headed to Denver will not depart other airports until the FAA lifts the “ground stop.” So far, no flights have been diverted to other airports, she said.

“It’s a pretty fluid situation,” Williams said. “The take away is that people should check their flight schedules before coming to the airport.”
