Sen. Michael Bennet, a Colorado Democrat, will oppose the appointment of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, he announced Tuesday.

“After reviewing his writings, opinions, and testimony, I have concluded that Judge Kavanaugh will create a new Supreme Court majority that will threaten women’s reproductive rights, roll back essential environmental regulations and favor large corporations over workers,” Bennet said on the social media network Twitter.

His opposition to President Donald Trump’s second pick to the high court is not surprising. The confirmation of Kavanaugh has been politically charged along partisan lines. Bennet also  and voted against Trump’s first Supreme Court pick, Colorado native Neil Gorsuch.

Colorado’s junior senator, Republican Cory Gardner, plans to vote for Kavanaugh, a spokesman said.

With the GOP holding a narrow majority in the Senate, Kavanaugh is expected to be confirmed this month. If that happens, he would likely be sworn in before the court begins hearing a fresh batch of cases in October.
