The body of a 32-year-old man was pulled from Horsetooth Reservoir on Monday afternoon about 45 feet from the shoreline after his wife called 911 for help.

The victim, who was not identified, was swimming near the South Bay beach when he went under the waterline and did not resurface, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office received a 911 phone call at 2:33 p.m. from the man’s wife, after she lost sight of her husband in the water, according to a news release.

Deputies responded along with members of the Larimer County Dive and Rescue Team, Poudre Fire Authority and county park rangers, among other first responders, and “located the unresponsive man” at 3:23 p.m., the release said. He was flown by helicopter to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office will release his name, as well as the cause and manner of his death.
