A slow-growth effort in Morrison took a stumble this week when voters chose not to stymie plans for a 1,350-home community on the east side of C-470 known as Red Rocks Ranch.

In a special election Tuesday, Morrison voters struck down two ballot measures that would have changed the zoning designation and reincorporated the 345-acre parcel back into the town. The moves had been proposed by a group of residents who say Red Rocks Ranch would be too dense and would create too much traffic at the doorstep of the historic town.

The vote against reversing the zoning town leaders placed on the land in May was 112-58 while the vote against reincorporating the parcel into the town was 115-55.
