Interstate 70 was closed in both directions near the Eisenhower Tunnel after a crash Wednesday afternoon that involved a tractor-trailer and multiple vehicles.
The truck was carrying a load of pipes when it rolled over about 3:40 p.m. near mile marker 208 on the west side of the tunnel, Colorado State Patrol spokesman Gary Cutler said. The pipes fell off the truck after the crash and damaged the truck’s gas tank, Cutler said.
The eastbound lanes of the highway reopened at about 6:30 p.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The westbound lanes reopened three hours later at about 9:30 p.m., according to CDOT.
Cutler said he had not heard of any injuries but that investigators were still gathering information. Colorado State Police said that multiple vehicles were hit by debris during the crash.

Officials detoured traffic along Highway 6 over Loveland Pass. The interstate was closed between mile marker 205 in Silverthorne and exit 216 for Loveland Pass.
The Colorado Department of Transportation said the “major crash” created extended delays.
is currently working on opening 2 lanes eastbound. The westbound lanes will be closed for an extended amount of time. No estimate for re-opening westbound lanes at this time.
