FORT COLLINS — The more he spoke, the more figured how to label his football team.
“We’re not, we’re not … I mean, we’re bad right now,” the Colorado State head coach said at his Monday meeting with the press.
That statement comes after a road win in Mountain West play.
He liked all of the quarters excluding the third, when the Rams (2-4, 1-1 MW) gave up 30 points to San Jose State. He figured it was likely the worst quarter ever played in college football. That alone makes it hard to pinpoint where the team is within the process of getting to where it wants to be this season.
What was encouraging was getting contributions from players who hadn’t previously appeared on the radar this season. , who has started the past two weeks with out with a neck/shoulder ailment, has risen his level of play. Jan-Phillip Bombek made a huge splash with three sacks, but it was starter Ellison Hubbard (two tackles for loss with a sack) who was their player of the game up front.
