In a letter sent home to parents, the principal of a Denver high school said she wanted parents to be aware that a student had brought a weapon to school last week.

On Friday, staff at Montbello Career and Technical High School received a report that one of the students may have had a firearm on campus, according to a letter from Principal Karen Powell sent home to parents of Montbello Career and Technical High School students. The report came in late in the day Friday and was investigated Monday.

Denver police and Denver Public Schools Department of Safety officers were called in to investigate early Monday. They searched the studentap car and found a weapon. It is unknown why it was brought to school.

No threats were ever made, and all students and staff were, and are, safe, according to the letter.
