Quarterback carousel. Derek Anderson will be Buffalo’s third starter at quarterback in seven weeks when the Bills play at Indianapolis. Nathan Peterman started the season and was a disaster. Rookie Josh Allen started in wins at Minnesota and vs. Tennessee but is out with an elbow injury. The Bills turned to Anderson, who last started a game in October 2016 (for Carolina) instead of going back to Peterman. Anderson signed on Oct. 9. “Things that happen in this game never amaze me,” Anderson said. “I was fully aware of what I was getting myself into coming here.”
Magic switch/magic pill. Broncos general manager John Elway lamented how there wasn’t a magic switch to help his team win a game. Jaguars coach Doug Marrone used the “magic pill” analogy to help his reeling team, 3-3 entering Sunday’s game against Houston (3-3). “Fundamentally, we have gotten away from some things and thatap on us as coaches,” Marrone said. “There is no magic pill or magic moment that you can just snap your fingers and go.” The major issue is turnovers. The Jaguars are minus-9 in ratio (second-worst in the league). A key game for the Jaguars, who have already lost to division rival Tennessee at home.
Rollercoaster Browns. At least Cleveland has had some “ups” to go with its usual “downs” this season. Their game-by-game results — tie, three-point loss, four-point win, three-point loss, three-point win and 24-point loss. “Itap going to be a roller coaster,” running back Duke Johnson said. “There’s still a lot we need to learn about our team. Itap never going to be a case of, ‘We figured things out. Now we’re perfect.’ ”
Brother act. Comparing the statistics for Houston’s J.J. Watt and younger brother T.J. Watt of Pittsburgh through six games. Sacks – seven for J.J., six for T.J. Tackles — 30 for T.J., 25 for J.J. Tackles for lost yardage — eight for J.J., seven for T.J. Quarterback hits — 11 for both. The Broncos face J.J.’s Texans in Week 9 and T.J.’s Steelers in Week 12.
