Police were able to peacefully resolve a hostage situation at a Boulder hair salon that lasted nearly three hours Wednesday.
Just after 10 a.m., police were called to Hair Rage International, 633 S. Broadway, at the Table Mesa Shopping Center in south Boulder when a man armed with a handgun reportedly took a woman hostage inside the salon.
Neighboring businesses were asked to evacuate and two nearby schools were placed on lockout as a SWAT team responded and a negotiator talked on the phone with the “verbally combative” suspect.
At 12:30 p.m., the negotiator was able to get the suspect to come outside voluntarily, where he was taken into custody without incident. The woman inside was uninjured.
“I’m so proud of our team,” Boulder police spokeswoman Shannon Aulabaugh said.
The suspect, identified as Fidel Jaramillo, 45, was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, domestic violence and felony menacing. Aulabaugh said more charges could also be filed as the investigation continues.
