Weld District Attorney Michael Rourke filed a motion Tuesday in Weld District Court asking to be represented at a hearing on whether the autopsy reports in the Christopher Watts homicide case should be sealed.

The Greeley Tribune and other media outlets across Colorado have filed a motion contesting the potential seal of the autopsy reports for Shanann Watts, 34, and her two daughters, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3. Christopher Watts was arrested in connection with their murders on Aug. 15 and faces five counts of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree unlawful termination of pregnancy and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body.

Weld County Coroner Carl Blesch filed a petition Oct. 15 requesting permission to keep the autopsy reports for 34-year-old Shanann Watts and her two daughters from the public.

Attorneys for Christopher Watts filed a motion Oct. 19 asking for a hearing on Blesch’s petition and for a hearing in the criminal case on whether the autopsy reports should be sealed. The motion also argues against Blesch’s request for a closed hearing.
