The last of three people charged with murdering a man during a 2015 money exchange in Denver was sentenced Monday.

Nick Vandervoort, 22, was sentenced to 25 years in prison, according to a news release from the Denver District Attorney’s Office. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in August.

Another man involved in the murder, Dante Rodriguez, 22, was sentenced to 48 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. A third defendant, 23-year-old Alexis Ellis, was sentenced to six years of probation after he pleaded guilty to a charge of accessory to crime.

All three defendants were originally charged with first-degree murder.

Vandervoot, Rodriguez and Ellis met Donald Johnson early in the morning of Sept. 16, 2015, near the intersection of Sheridan Boulevard and Dartmouth Avenue because Vandervoot owed Johnson money, according to the release. But Johnson, 26, never received his money and was shot and killed at the meeting instead.

Vandervoot, who was 19 at the time of the shooting, was arrested in Louisana and extradited back to Colorado.
