Denver SWAT officers burst into a high-rise apartment and apprehended a burglary suspect after he barricaded himself inside for more than seven hours, authorities say.

The standoff began at about 1:15 a.m. SWAT officers entered the apartment between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., said Doug Schepman, Denver police spokesman.

The burglar was the only person inside the apartment at the time of the arrest, Schepman said. SWAT officers and the burglar were not injured during the incident.

The name of the suspect has not been released.

Police had closed 19th Street at Lawrence Street during the standoff, tying up downtown traffic.
